The U.S. Army's 1st Space Battalion was activated on Dec 15, 1999 in Colorado Springs. However, the flag drawing was approved Dec. 14, 1999, so I doubt they had a flag at the activation ceremony. The drawing is 5-1-834.

The flag is similar to figure 5-21 (TDA Organization) as shown in the AR 840-10 June 1998. Although I believe the unit belongs to the U.S. Army Space and Missile Command they don't have a normal subordinate command flag. The flag is 3x4' National flag blue with a 16" insignia above a white scroll with the designation FIRST SPACE BATTALION. The insignia on the drawing is shown incorrectly as 24" although it states that it is 16" (oops). I assume the insignia comes from the SSI. I'm sorry I can't describe it successfully, but it has a half globe, an orbit arrow, lightning flashes, a four & five pointed star, and a Pheon arrow (which was in the predecessors SSI). The fringe is white which is unusual.

To me the flag doesn't follow normal specification conventions, which means someone high up wanted something special. I don't have any information on the guidons, but my guess is they have the SSI on a National flag blue field with a white designation letter below.
